What is Operation Steady Bunny?

It was my birthday, February 2020. I had just turned 55 and made a video suggesting that I should probably attempt to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I was going to post it for a laugh. Just a few weeks later and the Covid lockdowns started. The world plunged into a swirling pool of uncertainty. I never did post that video. Maybe I'll put it here » « if I can figure out how.

For a couple of years everything was turned upside down and it made me think that maybe I really should try to figure out what I should be when I grow up. So, I puzzled and puzzled until my puzzler was sore. For all of 2020 I thought about it. Then in December, a pair of juvenile arsonists made a TikTok video of themselves burning down the office building where we worked. You might have heard about the pain associated with change or getting your cheese moved. Needless to say, 2020 into 2021 was full of distraction as we tried to put the pieces back together. It took until spring of 2022 to get another building remodeled, and everybody moved in. Between Covid and the fire, the landscape at the office has changed dramatically. Finally, here at the end of 2022, the dust is finally settling enough for me to turn a modicum of attention back to my original question:

What do I want to be when I grow up?

It occurred to me that this pursuit could be an interesting project. The first part would be how to figure out how to figure it out. My thoughts turned toward the internet. There is no shortage of advice and guidance there. You can find How-To videos for just about everything.

My next thought was to try to document everything to help keep me organized as well as to share the experience with anybody bored enough to follow along. I call it Operation Steady Bunny. The basis for the name comes from that old tale of the Tortoise and the Hare. The moral of that story is basically slow and steady wins the race. That's a fine sentiment but I'm 57 as of this writing and I have to put a little rabbit speed into the mix. Hopefully the hybrid of Steady from the tortoise and the Speed from the bunny will help me to make progress a little faster.

So why this platform? I considered using WordPress for this but the problem with I have with WordPress is that it likes to put the newest post on top and thus the beginning gets buried pages deep in the past. This makes it hard to follow along from the beginning. The second thing is that I anticipate this project diverging from a traditional notion of a timeline. The Wiki format makes is easy to follow threads of ideas regardless of when they get added.

Who knows, I may find this method is not working and abandon it for something else. Maybe I'll start a YouTube channel as a companion piece.

Now you know how we got here and why the next part will be Figuring out how to figure it out. I'm sure that the internet has some advice and opinions.
